The Scottish National party (SNP)’s national council has voted to stop development of all new datacentres in Scotland, and is now over to the Scottish government to decide on.
[The SNP report] says there are 24 “hyperscale” datacentre projects in various stages of planning in Scotland. Combined, they would use more than one-and-a-half times the power Scotland uses at peak demand.
This latest in a string of possible and definite moratoriums on data centers reflects the groundswell of public pressure we’ve seen so far this year.
