    Tidal de-monetizes AI music

    On July 15, Tidal will stop paying royalties for, and will disallow directly selling, AI-generated music.

    They left us the following incredibly hopeful and uplifting message:

    Regardless of what you are reading elsewhere, AI’s takeover of the music industry (and your recommendations) isn’t inevitable

    Tidal has often found itself prioritizing ethical policies like paying musicians more money per play than most streaming services, not charging more for lossless music quality, and offering cheaper prices for students, so it’s not too surprising to see them take a purposeful stance on AI as well.

    They seem to share our frustration with AI slop, stating:

    Our inboxes (and your world, we’re assuming) are inundated with music that is created completely AI-generated and impersonating existing artists purely for financial gain.

  • Godot bans AI-authored code contributions

    Godot bans AI-authored code contributions

    The open source game engine Godot has changed their contribution policy to ban AI-authored code.

    The popular engine powers such games as Sonic Colors: Ultimate, Cassette Beasts, and Battlefield 6.

    We can’t trust heavy users of AI to understand their code enough to fix it.

    The announcement also points out that:

    LLMs can’t learn from specific feedback and thus can’t benefit from maintainers providing feedback.
